British LGBT Awards launch crucial survey to review serious challenges of LGBT+ U25s to help alleviate struggles

The survey aims to identify the difficulties in coming outfaced by young LGBT+ people and how schools, workplaces, and communities can do more to help

A vital survey aimed at highlighting the serious struggles of LGBT+ young people has been launched, with the goal of improving services and raising awareness of new challenges being faced among the community.

The prestigious British LGBT Awards have launched them under 25s initiative, by conducting a survey where 18-25-year-old members of the LGBT+ community can open up about their struggles.

Needless to say, a lot has happened since 2019, when the awards launched their first U25s survey.  Many young people now find themselves facing different types of challenges and this year’s survey has been updated to review the constantly changing landscape.

Sarah Garrett MBE, the founder of the British LGBT Awards, said:

“We are re-launching this survey to assess the current situation for young LGBT+ people, as so much has changed since last time.

“This time we hope to gain a more detailed insight into experiences and challenges that are part of the current landscape. We are aiming to reach as many people as we can and have feedback from young LGBT+ people who have not yet come out and gain an insight into their experiences.

“The survey is completely anonymous, and will allow the participants to express their feelings, thoughts, and experiences freely.”

The survey aims to gain up-to-date insight on where workplaces, schools, and communities can do more for the country’s LGBT+ youth. It will also look into the perceptions, habits, and behaviours of the young people in the community and identify whether coming out is still difficult for them, especially in the face of cuts to LGBT+ services.

The British LGBT Awards have been running since 2015 and are the most prestigious LGBT+ awards ceremony in the country. Besides the LGBT>25 surveys, they have also launched the LBTQWomen initiative, which has gained a global presence.

Previous award winners include LGBT+ celebrities such as Stephen Fry, Caitlyn Jenner, and Tom Daley, and famous LGBT+ allies HRH Prince William, Kylie Minogue, and Daniel Radcliffe.

The British LGBT Awards aim to build awareness of the issues young LGBT+ people face and help LGBT+ services and charities provide better support, and better access to the correct information online.

The survey opened on February 15 and will run until the 15 of April. Members of the LGBT+ community aged 18-25 can take part by clicking here. It is completely anonymous and can only be entered once per person.
